Bat Yam

Bat-Yam is a few kilometers south of Tel-Aviv.  Due to its central location, it is an excellent starting point for a complete tour of Israel; Jerusalem in the east, the Negev Desert and the Dead Sea in the south, Haifa, the Galilee and the Golan Heights in the north.

The main feature of Bat Yam is its beautiful beach.

History:   Bat Yam was established in 1926 under the name of Bayit VaGan.  During the 1929 Palestine Riots, Bayit VaGan came under attack by Arab gangs from the neighboring town of Jaffa and was evacuated by the British Authorities.  In 1938, the towns name was changed to Bat Yam.  During the 1948 War of Independence there was again fighting in Bat Yam until Jaffa surrendered.

What Bat Yam has to offer:
The beautiful beachfront Promenade, both during the day and night, is dotted with numerous restaurants offering all types of cuisine for every budget.  Numerous hotels are located along the Promenade - and some are equipped to host international and domestic conferences.

Bat Yam offers 3.5 km of sandy beaches, one protected by breakwaters and all perfectly maintained and serviced.

Numerous water sports are available including sailing, windsurfing, para-gliding and hang-gliding. There is a sports center on the beachfront offering facilities and fresh water swimming pools.

Opposite the "Man Rock" Beach is an open-air Amphitheater which during the summer months hosts outdoor performances by renowned Israeli artists.

The main center for outdoor recreational activities is the Municipal Park where there are barbecue area, a large skating rink, playgrounds and during the summer public performances.

For shopping, Bat Yam has a large Shopping Mall open from morning to night with large retail stores, boutiques, restaurants, cafes and a movie theaters.

If you are looking for culture, Bat Yam has three Museums with changing exhibitions of works by Israeli and Foreign Artists

Around Bat Yam

Ben Gurion Airport is only a 30 minute drive away.

Jaffa is a 10 minutes drive from Bat Yam.  Centuries of history, picturesque artists' quarter, night clubs, open air cafes exclusive restaurants and fish restaurants in the legendary Jaffa Port.

Tel Aviv is Israel's largest city and commercial center is a 20 minute drive away.  An exciting city of entertainment, shopping, markets culture and art.

Rishon Le Zion is a 15 minute drive away and Rehovot just 30 minutes away.   Visit the Carmel Winery in Rishon Le Zion or the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot.
